„Zaviazaní sociálnodemokratickým hodnotám“

O Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung

  • Podpora politického a spoločenského vzdelávania v duchu demokracie a pluralizmu
  • Podpora medzinárodného porozumenia
  • Podpora vedecky nadaných a spoločensky zaangažovaných študentiek a študentov
  • Podpora vedeckého výskumu

Overcoming the Shadow Economy

There is a growing global consensus that the secrecy-havens - jurisdictions which undermine global standards for corporate and financial transparency - pose a global problem: they facilitate both money laundering and tax avoidance and evasion, contributing to crime and unacceptably high levels of global wealth inequality.

What can countries do in order to handle these problems?

The following publication by Joseph E. Stiglitz and Mark Pieth delivers answers to the question how to overcome shadow economy.

A Shared European Home: The European Union, Russia and the Eastern Partnership

The conflict in and around Ukraine has called into question the premises of the EU's Eastern Policy. In a new FES Perspective, eleven authors from the EU, Georgia, Russia and Ukraine advocate for a pragmatic policy of the EU vis-à-vis its eastern neighbors: The deep crisis in EU-Russia relations should not prevent Brussels from seeking cooperation in areas where mutual interests coincide. Opportunities exist in the economic sphere, in technical and scientific cooperation, in civil society exchange, and in global politics.

Economic cooperation is especially important in this regard:
The interdependence between the EU and Russia could not prevent the conflict, but it played its role in preventing worse scenarios. Trade and mutual investments do not form a "magic wand" that guarantees friendly relations or modernization - but they can be seen as a "safety net" that should not be given up, and should be strengthened again as soon as the opportunity arises.

The FES Perspective was authored by Elena Alekseenkova, Henrik Hallgren, Hiski Haukkala, Felix Hett, Anna Maria Kellner, Igor Lyubashenko, Florence Mardirossian, Tatiana Romanova, Tornike Sharashenidze, Maryna Vorotnyuk, and Julia Wanninger.
Europe Calling

Europe Calling: Politics for Europe. Watch the Events of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Live

Financial crisis, economic crisis, refugee crisis: They are serving as centrifugal forces, polarising Europe and driving it apart. Recently, trust in the European Union and finding joint solutions for such central challenges has really suffered.

That makes it even more important to ask: What is keeping Europe together? And what progressive European policies can counter pessimism and legitimate worries with a positive alternative that is fit for the future?

With Europe Calling (#ec16fes), the Friedrich Ebert Foundation will address these questions and discuss them in Brussels (24th of February), Zagreb (24th of May), Athens (2nd of June), Düsseldorf(16th of June) and finally, in Berlin (20th of June). Europe Calling is developing ideas for a social, fair and free Europe. Become a part of it!
